Once again, on the road to Southern California with Eric and his huge exploding nuts. We took the scenic route: Lake Tahoe, Mono Lake, InyoKern CinderCones...basically Hwy 395 South on the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. We get caught in a blizzard overnight at Mammoth Lakes, at a hotel with plugged/slow drains in every room. We talk about Lutefisk, attempt to visit a HotSprings, and discuss Erics Nuts. Why, there's even a little music in this episode: "Manic Depressive" by Sykotik Sinfoney.

Recorded the Friday after Thanksgiving, sitting alone in the dark on my bed. My cats were attempting to cheer me, but it just didn't work. I had to call in sick , I just couldn't leave the house. I was bawling like a baby, terrible thoughts were assaulting my brain. I spent the whole day in bed, wanting my brain to just fucking DIE. I decided that stopping my anti-anxiety treatment without my doctors approval was the root cause of this mini-breakdown, complicated by a hypoglycemic event. I refilled the medication and am back to taking it before bed each evening. I have not listened to what I recorded (just didn't want to re-live the whole drama), so forgive me if the audio is crap.

Today I visited the IOOF Cemetery, to try and locate the grave of Mr Melvin Belli . I was successful in locating Mr Belli; However, I learned the tough way that my camera has a 1 Gig limit while recording video (I have a 2 Gig SD Card installed). Thankfully, the recording did not shut off until just after the golden moment where I find Mr Belli's gravesite. Woefully, the camera shut off just as I was wishing Mr Belli a Happy Birthday & thanking him for all the good things he accomplished. Oh well, I guess those words were meant to be heard only by Mr Belli. Anyhow the video will be posted in a bit (it takes time to convert a 1 Gig AVI to a managable MP4 format).

Another thing that was not recorded was the fact that there was a votive candle burning, and a vase of red roses placed lovingly on the grave. Seems I was not the only visitor today. On my way out, I met the other visitors. Todays picture is of the 2 ladies I met....Mrs Melvin Belli and daughter. I'm sorry I don't recall the daughters name. We had a brief chat, I gave them my email address and web/podcast info. She seemed very pleased to see that Mr Belli had visitors other than herself. I think it meant a lot to her. I felt, for a moment, how wonderful this world of Synchronicity works.

Join me for a sound-scene recording of my adventure into Moaning Cavern.

Wearing my FreakNetWork t-Shirt and pink lycra shorts (under my khakis) I risked being buried alive 165 ft underground...and as my luck would have it, my timing was crap because I endured the tour with a busload of 4th graders!!! oh the horror!!!

At one point, the spawn erupt into a spontaneous group noise-making effort..clapping and hooting as their fearless 4th grade teacher emerges from the dark hole at the top of the chamber to rappel like Spiderman down a thin, frayed rope. She looked pretty scared as she dangled in mid-air, slowly inching down the rope. I can certainly understand her fear...I mean, there was a crowd of 4th graders waiting to devour her at the chamber floor!

I wish to thank Kevin, my fearless tour guide, for allowing me to record. I also wish thanks to the management of Moaning Cavern for allowing me to take this tour. If any of you listeners ever journey to Yosemite National Park, I suggest a day trip to one of the several caverns found here in Calaveras County.

Ok, so the Post Title has nothing to do with the content, and it's a damn long episode. I'm just a marketing whore. This audio is 1.5 hours recorded during my delivery route. I recorded most of the deliveries I did on Good Friday (HE died because of your sins! Feel Guilty and send Money!!). I recorded this audio with the hand-made binaural microphones..and it took me forever to correct the sound balance (the LEFT side records much louder than the RIGHT side). Sorry for the podcrastination. I've been very busy and focused on preparing to switch careers. I've been offered a job at the local Medical Center. This offer comes with a full package of benefits, and a nice bump up in salary. I'd be foolish to pass on this opportunity.

Join me on a steam train ride from Railtown 1897. Experience the sounds and lore of the train as we ride from Jamestown to the Rock Quarry. I am SOOO glad to have electricity again. Last night, a storm blew through the Sierra Foothills dumping about 5" of wet/heavy snow at low elevations...like, where I live. I was awakened this morning to the various sounds Oak Trees make when they snap in half and crash onto the ground. I was quite afraid one of them was going to land on my house. As I lay in bed contemplating my fate, I noticed a chill in the air...the power had been off for HOURS. My only heat is electric, so I could see my breath in the chilled air of my bedroom. The cats had pinned me into position, and protested as I tried to nest deeper into my warm and cozy comforter. The phone service was also disrupted, so I could not call to see if we had deliveries for the day. I was finally able to get out of my driveway at around noon, arrived at the shop and realized that I should have stayed home warm in bed. One of the Oaks had fallen onto the "drop line" leading to the shop. Even if power is restored to the grid, it's going to take a special crew to repair the "drop line". PG&E will probably make repairing that "drop line" a low priority, due to the hundreds of breaks on the MAIN power line. So, I might be without work for a second day. This is not a bad thing, as I will be able to get some additional audio in line for you loyal listeners. However, I really hope to work tomorrow. Thanks for taking time to read this.

I found another old cassette tape which contains more memories from my past. I promised to post this audio awhile ago. This is an interview with my friend Mikael, recorded from AM radio in the mid-90's. Mikael has many UFO/Contactee experiences. I have been out with him on several late-night adventures, and have seen some pretty strange things in the sky with him as a guide. Sometime in the 90's Mikael was a guest on a SF Bay Area news/talk station along with Marilee, a UFO researcher. I've removed all references to the FCC call letters of the station, and all commercials...so I think it's OK to post this.

My latest contact with Mikael was in Oct 2006, after the Podcast/Portable Media Expo. I first visited my sister in Rosamond, then drove deep into the desert to visit Mikael near Lake Lucerne (HA! I didn't see anything that even looked like a DRY lake!). I stayed overnight, we chatted late into the evening. I met his Lady friend, and his green iguana and pigeons.
Sunrise was amazing out there in the desert, I'm glad I was able to experience it. Todays blog pic was taken in Mikaels yard just after sunrise.

I spent the day with my friend Rick (straight retired Private Investigator) constructing a stealth, binaural microphone headset. Total cost: $8.00

It was constructed using a cheap set of headphones from the dollar-store, and 2 condenser mic elements from Radio Shack. While not perfect, it seems to work pretty well in the proper environment.

This episode was recorded DAYS ago. I have no idea of what I said. I know that it's probably about my Birthday Box, which my Mom takes great pleasure in preparing. I get a gift (or set-of-gifts,usually themed around a room in my house...IE Bathroom, Kitchen..) for each day in January until the 18th (my Birthday!). I probably mention unlimited Skype-Out calling for US$14.95/YEAR (not sure how this works for ppl outside of US/Canada...but me..it means basically FREE long-distance service...I can call my sister without using a calling card).

So, enjoy this episode. I think there's a reason I'm not recalling recording it. I hate having (limited) multiple personality disorder! (or something close to it)

Here's what Luigi has to say about his new song in an email:

"The background is that 20 or so years ago our country voted to ban nuclear powered and armed ships from our ports. That had nothing to do with our feelings of friendship with the USA, we have always been friends, but we have a democracy and pride ourselves on being clean and green (most of the time) and the only things nuclear in New Zealand are for cancer treatment and research in hospitals.

Anyway, as a consequence, the United States decided that we were no longer friends of the US. They banned us from ANZUS, which was our local defence treaty, stopped allowing us to participate in defence training, denied us free trade agreements, shut us out from most military intelligence and in effect all but shut the door on us.

Things have thawed a little recently. We have been allowed to participate in 3 defence training programs and recently 17 New Zealand soldiers were given US Medals of Honor for service in Afghanistan. Other than that, we are still not friends.

So. I think its about time this stopped, so I wrote a song to protest about it and to try to get people aware of this. As the song says, "Our men fought along with yours on a dozen foreign shores". Why does New Zealand have to look to the likes of China for a Free Trade Agreement?"

I play some podsafe music from FreedomPeople and NewLeaf, provided by the Podsafe Music Network. Kentie from the FlatusShow sent me a DVD as a prize for sending him a voicemail. WOW! This Episode is G-rated, due to the fact that the geocaching crowd might hear this podcast. There is some singing about nudity in one of the songs I play today, but nothing graphic or offensive.

This is the just the musical bit from the previous epsiode, as intended to be heard. Audacity needed a new MP3 encoder installed, and it fucked with my audio a bit. Here, unmolsted by the "new and improved" LAME mp3 encoder, the audio sounds like it should have been heard originally. I think the new encoder shifted the pitch a bit too high. So, here is the original file straight off the iRiver. The screen shot is of the sequencer I use, Dr T's KCS (which I also have installed in my Atari ST emulator).

Today, I returned to Coyote Creek (Natural Bridges) for a swim. Of course, I had to swim Au Natural. I have to warn you that todays episode has not been edited, nor have I attempted to "clean up" the sound by scrubbing out the sound of the creek. It's a type of audio that you will either LOVE, or it will drive you bonkers and you'll HATE it. The creek has a very White-Noise/Static sound which some ppl attempt to recreate by purchasing electronic devices to help them sleep. So, if you're not the type that finds the WhiteNoise relaxing, I urge you to not listen to this episode. However, you'll miss a very special moment that is heard at appx 25:31....no cherries were involved ;)

This weekend I drove out to Osprey Point at New Melones Lake, in order to revisit the private little bay where I had recorded an episode of my show. I believe it was called "Skinny Dipping & a Lot Lizzard". In anycase, compare this view of the bay 11JUN06 to the view posted above which was taken the day I went skinny dipping. The wet winter really added some water to the lake. As you can see, it's even flooded some oak trees (which will probably die off because they can't take water during summer).

Then I talk about the Hostel Situation and why I bailed out of town after Zilla and I got totally wet while GeoCaching for a cache called "Dolores Park And Bark" (waypoint GCH49B).

Hey everyone, I'm off to SanFrancsisco to meetup with Zilla and Corkey & Duncan! Happy Birthday Zilla!!

I'm excited about this adventure, 'cause I have not been to SF since a Gary Numan concert in 1998 (at the Fillmore). I found some decent lodging, which you'll hear about early next week. I have never stayed at a Hostel Dorm before, so this should be interesting. I'm still working on SDR50, so SDR51 will probably be posted before Episode 50....I know it's confusing...but when you're a multi-dimensional spirit, ya just have to be flexible with your concepts of "time".

Whoops, I ate the damn special brownies I made for Zilla...oh well. I'm gonna enjoy some music, and the wonderful sunshine that we're getting today..FINALLY...I have not seen blue sky for 2-3 weeks!

This was my first attempt at recording and using a Gizmo chat. I think it went well. However, I do need a spanking for not giving Archerr a proper intro and for not thanking him politely at the end. It was time to check out the whole "wine tasting" scene, so I visited a local winery and brought along the iRiver. I can't go anywhere without someone recognizing me...while I was at the winery a lady I know walked into the tasting room. I think I edited most of that encounter. So, we have a visit to a tiny winery, and I chat a bit about the area of California I live in and what the plans are for next weekend. The ending is a bit abrupt, the mic I was using kept shorting out. Oh well.

I'm just getting started. I'm a delivery boy who happens to work in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California. Memorial Day is coming, which means I'll have to deal with the cracked-out wackos who come up here "en-masse" to escape the crowded traffic in the Bay Area (SF/Oakland) and do nothing but bring the insanity along. Joy to them. Hope they find the serenity they search for up here....but, I ask only one small favor....don't blame the locals for driving too slow, or get impatient because someone is actually HAND WRITING a check at the supermarket in front of you....ARGH!!!
